An environmental and financial disaster waiting to happen.

TLDR of The Presentation: The current rail plan for Solano County, California was born of a broken political process where the cities got together and divided up the political pie, ignoring factors critical to rail success, and also gave no voice to Travis Air Force Base, the largest employer in the county. The planned Benicia Station will steadily sink into Suisun Marsh, a protected wetland, which is critical habitat along the Pacific Flyway. This will be a global environmental disaster. Encroachment on Travis AFB makes it more likely that the federal government will finally close the base and move its functions elsewhere, gutting the county financially and leaving behind a Superfund site. Moving it would create a NEW Superfund site elsewhere on the West Coast. r/SolanoRail
